Custom Stone Fireplace and Patio Built from a Bare Backyard

A lot of backyards sit unused because there's nothing really there - just dead grass, scattered old bricks, and wasted space. That's exactly what we were working with here. A narrow side yard with patchy turf, no real surface to stand on, and zero reason to spend time outside.

We came in and built a full flagstone patio and a custom stacked-stone outdoor fireplace from the ground up. The fireplace is the centerpiece. It's got a full chimney, a proper firebox with an iron grate, and a hearth ledge built right into the base. This isn't a prefab unit you order online - it's built block by block, designed to hold up for the long haul.

The flagstone surface ties the whole space together. It gives the patio a finished, intentional look that pairs well with the weight and texture of the stone fireplace. The two elements feel like they belong together, which is exactly the point. Outdoor living areas work best when every piece is planned as part of a whole.

What this space does now is give the homeowner a real outdoor room. A place to sit around a fire, entertain, or just decompress after work. It extends the usable square footage of the home without adding onto the structure. That's the value of good patio installation - it works with the footprint you already have.
